OPM consultant Dr. Serufusa Sekidde, has won the prestigious British Expertise Young Consultant of the Year 2015 award.

The awards, established to promote UK excellence abroad, recognise exceptional performance in the professional services sectors. Taken together, this sector – which includes consultancy, development, architecture and infrastructure businesses – grew by 120% last year and now accounts for over 10% of UK exports.

The Young Consultant of the Year category profiles consultants under the age of 35 who have demonstrated outstanding achievements on the international stage and who show significant future potential in their chosen field.

Global health and development expert, Dr. Sekidde’s current projects include the China-UK Global Health Support Programme (GHSP), a £12million, multi-year DFID project aimed at improving health and policy outcomes on a global scale. He is also providing technical assistance as part of the World Bank-funded Nigeria State Investment Programme, supporting the development of performance-based financing incentives within the country’s primary health care system.

Dr. Sekidde said: ‘It was an honour to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award. As part of OPM’s health team, I am able to contribute to projects in a range of countries, working across the policy cycle from research to evaluation - and really seeing the impact of the work that we do. I’m delighted that the work of OPM’s health team and support staff is being recognised by such a well-regarded international forum.’

Tracey Smith, Chief Executive of British Expertise, said: ‘The British Expertise International Awards recognise outstanding international achievements in the UK professional services sector. The judges have been particularly impressed by the quality of the young consultants that have been put forward, their achievements are outstanding and the competition this year was extremely fierce. Congratulations to all our finalists.’

Dr. Sekidde has been a consultant in OPM’s health team for the last three years. His areas of expertise include health care financing and monitoring and evaluation of health care programmes. A trained medical doctor, he holds a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University.

The awards were judged by a panel of industry experts chaired by the HRH Duke of Gloucester and the winners were announced on 14 April 2015.
