Urban Policy

54 percent of the world’s population is now urban and this is expected to increase to 66 percent by 2050. Projections show an additional 2.5 billion people will live in urban areas, with more than 90 percent of this likely to be concentrated in Asia and Africa. Managing the growing urban population and number of cities is one of the most important development challenges of the 21st century. Doing so will require innovative urban planning, management abilities and techniques, coupled with a progressive policy environment.
