Effective policy decision-making hinges on timely, reliable evidence, supplied by National Statistical Offices and other data producers. Post-MDG agenda discussions indicate an even greater need for data in the future. However, conflicting demands from donors and policy-makers, lack of coordination between data producers, and inadequate dissemination strategies for statistical products can all combine to result in low confidence in the quality of outputs. This prompts the need for statistical capacity-building and strengthened statistical governance.
