Olle Östensson has nearly 40 years’ experience analysing commodity industries and trade, advising on policy, legislation, market integration and economic and environmental management of the mining, energy and agricultural sectors. After working on economic analyses and policy formulation for the mining and metals industry in the Swedish Ministry of Industry, he held various management positions in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) from 1985 to 2009, where he led research projects and coordinated major UNCTAD policy reports. He was responsible for economic analysis of commodity markets and for technical cooperation work, including working with OPM and the ICMM on the Resource Endowment initiative. Since becoming a consultant in 2009 he has continued to work with OPM (Lao PDR and Burkina Faso) and also spent time in the DRC on a UNDP financed project with the International Trade Centre (ITC) that aimed to review mining policy.
